Updating linux driver

This topic provides a procedure that you can use to update or change the device driver used for a device.

Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

Linux Mint 17 is a long term support release which will be supported until 2019.

Kernel 2.6.x will be used (in particular, kernel 2.6.8 under Debian Sarge, which is now Debian Stable).

If you delete the printer driver, Windows uninstalls the printer driver, but leaves the printer-driver package in the driver store to allow you to reinstall the driver at some point.

If you remove the printer-driver package, Windows removes the package from the driver store, completely removing the printer driver from the computer.

The documentation is unmodified to be compliant with upstream distribution policy.
